  • Will epoxy floors crack?

Epoxy floors are inflexible. Due to rigidity, epoxy is prone to cracking when the foundation experiences slight shifts. This leads to the formation of cracks in the epoxy coating. This can be difficult and expensive to repair. Recoating a new layer of epoxy is often the only solution to fix the problem.

  • How long will an epoxy floor system last?

At Modern Epoxy Premium Floor Coatings, our industrial epoxy floor coatings are highly resistant to damage and usually last at least 10 years, even in high-demand environments. This exceeds the lifespan of DIY epoxy floor coatings which can only last a few years. If properly maintained, commercial epoxy flooring can even last 20 years or longer without showing stains and damage.

  • How durable are epoxy floors?

Commercial and industrial epoxy floors are valued for their durability and longevity. Epoxy protects concrete floors from stains, moisture, cracks, and damage with a high-performance protective layer. It can also withstand forms of damage, including corrosive liquids, vehicle traffic, and abrasion.

Industrial epoxy floor coatings are great for high-traffic and demanding environments since they bind with the concrete substrate and are stronger than concrete. This increases the weight load of the concrete with a flexural strength that exceeds 10,000 PSI.

  • What are the benefits and uses of epoxy flooring?

Commercial epoxy flooring can withstand even the most demanding environments with the flexibility to be used in many settings. It is seamless and USDA-approved which means it’s easy to sanitize and clean. It can also withstand harsh cleaning protocols to ensure a hygienic surface in restrooms, kitchens, and healthcare settings. Known for their strength and durability, commercial epoxy floor coatings are also the ultimate in low-care flooring. They can be swept and mopped easily and never need to be waxed or polished.

Commercial epoxy floor coating is resistant to wear and damage from foot and vehicle traffic, chemicals, heat, extreme cold, moisture, abrasion, and heavy loads. It can be customized too. If your facility has unique needs, we can recommend a specialized industrial epoxy that meets your needs including epoxy that resists battery acid or offers static dissipation. The appearance of epoxy floor coatings can be customized with many colors, patterns, and effects. We incorporate your business or sports team logo into metallic epoxy flooring and striping to direct traffic. We can achieve any look you want.

  • Why is epoxy flooring better than traditional concrete flooring?

Regular concrete isn’t as durable as it looks because it’s naturally very porous and prone to spalling, cracks, and other issues. Epoxy floor coatings protect your concrete floor from stains and damage and increases its tensile and compressive strength. Epoxy is seamless and nonporous which makes cleaning your floors easy. It’s also decorative with endless ways to get the floor you want.

  • How long does it take to install a garage epoxy floor?

It takes just one to two days for professional garage floor epoxy installation. We will begin by making necessary repairs, lifting stains, and diamond grinding your concrete. This part takes the longest. Once the surface is prepped, epoxy will be installed. Depending on the type of epoxy system, it may take more than one or two days. After installation is complete, your epoxy should be left alone for 24-48 hours before it’s ready for light foot traffic. You should wait at least 5 days before you drive on your new garage floor.

  • What is the maintenance like for an epoxy floor?

It’s easier than you may think. You can sweep and mop your floor regularly to keep it looking great. Epoxy flooring in a commercial setting or garage can be pressure washed and squeegeed as long as you have cove protection installed.

Epoxy flooring is very hard but can be damaged. Use mats at doorways to prevent tracking moisture and grit on shoes where it can become imprinted on the floor. Most cleaning products are safe to use on epoxy. You should avoid acidic products that can degloss the epoxy coating. Soap-based products will not damage epoxy concrete floors, but they will leave a slippery buildup on the surface. If your epoxy does develop stains, use a soft brush and TSP or CLR.

  • Can you put epoxy flooring on damaged concrete?

It depends on the extent of the damage. If it’s some stains and minor cracks, we can repair those quickly before installing the floor, but if there are significant cracks or water damage, you may need to repair them before applying the epoxy.
